ALL the Appointments

No one ever tells you the amount of appointments that go with having cancer. Last week I had four, which I thought was a lot. I met with a check-in nurse, genetics, surgical oncologist, and a nurse navigator. I am not really sure how to describe the experience, except it's a lot of information coming at you all at once! I was talking with a friend who was checking in and she was able to put into words how I've been feeling... It's like I am standing in front of a fire hose, and I can't seem to catch my breath. There are little moments in the day that allow me to forget, I find it's when I'm moving or keeping busy...walking, running, working, baking, cleaning, it's the moments of silence and stillness that sneak up on me.

This week I had ALL the appointments! CT Scan, NM injection, Bone Scan, Echo, Plastics, Medical Oncologist, blood draw, a shot and then a port placement appointment. The earlier appointments and scans were honestly SO boring. It's a lot of waiting and then being completely still while they scan you. Which for anyone that knows me sitting still is SO hard. At one of the scans the tech was like "Ya, I am going to need to tape your feet together". Ha! The medical oncologist appointment was a lot of information, but my best friend came with me, and she's in the medical field, so she helps SO much! The port placement procedure was fairly quick and I didn't feel anything, but the combo of Versed and Fentanyl will do that even though I was in a conscious sedation and not fully out. I remember it being really cold and the medical team rocking out to the best hits of 2006. HA!

While there is a lot going on and there are definitely harder days. Today I was in at the hospital from 8:30am-Noon, but after that I still did things I enjoy in the afternoon. I spent the rest of the day eating the BEST breakfast burrito, laughing at my sister for napping when she was helping me "recover", hanging with my best littlest friend, and FroYo with the best of them! I am fighting cancer, but I am also still living and doing all the things I love!
